St John provides:
- First aid training
- First aid kits
- First aid services at community and public events, and assistance during disaster relief
- A range of community care services for the aged, the infirm, the immobile and lonely
- Funding and support for ophthalmic services at the St John Jerusalem Eye Hospital, in East Timor and in Australian communities.
- A youth development program for young people aged 8 to 18 years.
- Public access defibrillators throughout the Australian community
We have been active in Australia for over 125 years, and internationally are part of a wider organisation with a long and honourable history.
Each year, St John Ambulance SA Inc:
- Delivers approximately 50,000 first aid certificates, making it South Australia’s largest first aid training provider
- Provides over 300,000 hours of voluntary service
- Treats approximately 15,000 casualties
- Coordinate almost 1000 first aid volunteers, in their familiar black and white uniforms, providing first aid coverage at public events and wherever crowds gather.
- Support and train over 750 Cadets and juniors in its youth development program;
- Coordinate and support 500 non-uniformed community care volunteers, providing friendship, reassurance, survival skills and literacy support programs to those in need and
- Thank numerous other volunteers who support crucial fundraising and awareness programs;
All of this is achieved with approximately 120 paid staff including 80 accredited trainers and our volunteer state staff.
