St John Trainers
St John Trainers come from all walks of life but have one in thing common - they
are all experienced and qualified trainers and first aiders. Many are, or have been,
St John Brigade/Operations members, providing thousands of ours of first aid service voluntarily. Others have come from nursing, ambulance, OH&S, or emergency service backgrounds.
 
All St John trainers delivering to the public hold the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training as a minimum, and many more hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or other teaching qualifications.
 
 
St John Course Quality
We take the quality of our courses seriously. We have to, as that quality affects the learning experience of 50,000 South Australians each year, and countless more who, when ill or injured, are managed by St John trained first aiders and first responders. St John courses have evolved from the experiences of countless first aiders, first responders, ambulance officers, nurses and medics from around the world.
 
All our courses, except Caring For Kids, are based on nationally recognised Units of Competency from the 2007 Health Training Package. This is the industry standard for First Aid delivery. The first aid content is based on the guidleines of the Australian Resuscitation Council. In addition, our courses are scrutinised by a National Medical Advisory Panel made up of medical and pre-hospital care specialists including Defence Force and Australian Sports Institute representatives.

Flexible Learning Options
Need a Senior First Aid Certificate but can't spare 2 days for a course? The Flexible Senior First Aid course may be your answer. This program allows you to study half the course in your own time, guided either through a Workbook or CD/Online Tutor, and then spend one day face to face.
 
Suitable for those new to First Aid or an opportunity to brush up your knowledge before returning for a 1 day refresher. Click here to see what courses are available.
 
Here's some feedback about the Flexible course:
 
  • CD-Rom was a great way to do the first part of the training – easier to take info in, in shorter sessions then all in one day.
  • I thought the CD Rom was excellent.  Easy to understand and remember 
  • I really liked the CD Rom and doing it at home.  I took in so much more info at home and felt even more confident going to the practical course.  I feel more confident now I have retained the info. 
  • I think the ‘e’- learning online was very beneficial and made me feel so much more confident to do the refresher.  Thankyou, very valuable. 
  • I found the website exercise to be very good but I still needed the day course to practice the knowledge, especially the CPR exercise.  Thanks.
  • New first aid format was user friendly.  Continued updating is seen to occur through St John.

I was pleased with the trainer's flexibility to adapt what is taught to the needs & English level of the students. She also spoke clearly and slowly enough and checked for learner comprehension. The content was kept simple and to the basics without too many details. (necessary because of the levels of the students. A challenging group to teach and she did a great job of working within the limitations of the nature of the group.

Trainer provided information and scenarios as examples and ‘what might you do if…’ situations in an informative way that gave confidence to me to administer first aid. Being a first aider now does not have an ‘overwhelming’ feeling ‘this is too much – I cant remember it – I cant do it’. The trainer offered much practical, get it into perspective advice.
