news St John Ambulance new emergency system
09.09.2011
St John Ambulance Australia (SA) has signed an agreement to promote the Assure Connect™ emergency alert system.
Assure Connect™ works with any ordinary telephone (fixed line or mobile) and puts a person in distress in contact with their friends and relatives fast and provides special features to help manage emergency communications.
The system simultaneously calls up to nine people; the first to answer is connected. This dramatically improves the chances of reaching a friend or relative on the first attempt - and increases the speed of response.
Triple Zero can be added as a conference call by simply pressing the zero key during the conversation. The friend or relative can then provide clear instructions to emergency services and assist the caller.
“We were impressed by the capabilities of Assure Connect™ and saw it as a good fit with the St John’s charter to help people in sickness, distress, suffering or danger” said Sharyn Mitten, St John (SA) Chief Executive Officer.
“There are many personal emergency systems available but very few that operate outside of the home and most have relatively high up-front costs for purchase and installation” said Sharyn Mitten.
Assure Connect™ has a modest monthly subscription fee of only $9.90 and is available without signing any contracts. Usage charges are in addition to the monthly subscription.
Assure Connect™ is based on the reality that in most emergency situations the telephone is the primary communication system for calling for help.
“Utilising friends and family as the first point of contact for the system does two things; it encourages people who become distressed to call for assistance earlier and secondly it enhances people’s independence knowing that they can quickly get help” said Sharyn Mitten.
“We would always encourage people to contact Triple Zero first in a clear cut emergency but many concerning situations are not clear cut or aren’t Triple Zero emergencies; and this is where Assure Connect™ has great value” said Sharyn Mitten.
The Assure Connect™ system was developed by Red Button Technologies, an Adelaide based telecommunications product development company.
“We are delighted to be partnering with St John Ambulance to assist in the promotion of Assure Connect™” said Red Button Technologies Chief Executive Justin Wearne.
“St John is a highly credible charitable organisation that makes a valuable contribution to the community and importantly is largely self funding. People who purchase Assure Connect™ via St John will in-directly provide assistance to a very worthwhile cause.”
People who purchase Assure Connect™ through St John Ambulance can obtain a 10% discount off the normal monthly subscription fee of $9.90 per month (including GST).
