Learn clinical skills from the ground up

From CPR and wound management to patient assessment, oxygen therapy, and AED use, you will receive comprehensive, clinically governed training delivered by experienced medical professionals.

Serve at events that matter

Work alongside your team at local community events, major festivals, Adelaide sporting fixtures, and state emergency deployments. Every shift adds to your experience and your community's safety.

Who we are looking for

Any background. Any career. Any age.

Our volunteer Event Medics come from every walk of life. Teachers, tradespeople, office workers, students, retirees. What they share is a desire to give something back and the commitment to see their training through.

No healthcare experience required. We train you from the very beginning using proven, structured methods.

Aged 18 or over and a resident of South Australia.

Able to commit around 5 to 10 hours per month for training and event shifts.

A calm, team-oriented person who wants to grow under structured clinical mentorship.

Willing to undertake a national police check as part of the onboarding process.

Your journey

From zero to qualified in around 6 months.

Your path to becoming a fully qualified St John Event Medic is structured, supported, and achievable alongside full-time work or study. Here is what to expect.

Phase 1
Weeks 1 to 2

Application and onboarding

Register your interest, complete your application, and undergo onboarding checks including a police clearance. You will be assigned a mentor and welcomed into your local St John team.

Weeks 3 to 6

Core compliance training

Complete your foundational modules to reach operational compliance. This covers emergency first aid, CPR, AED use, patient assessment, and St John operational procedures. You are deployable to supervised events by the end of this phase.

Months 2 to 5

Supervised event practice

Begin attending real events under the supervision of experienced St John clinicians. Each shift builds your patient management skills, situational awareness, and confidence. Ongoing modular training continues in parallel.

Full qualification

Complete your final assessments and achieve full Event Medic status. You are now a qualified, independent St John volunteer ready to take on a broader range of events and emergency deployments.

Designed to fit around real life.

We know your time is valuable. The Event Medic program is structured so you can contribute meaningfully without it becoming a second job. Training modules are scheduled across evenings and weekends, and event shifts are flexible.
