Available 24/7 when required, our Ground Ambulance Transfer service supports domestic and international aeromedical retrievals, including repatriation missions into Adelaide. With our central operational hub located near Adelaide International Airport, we are well positioned to provide timely, coordinated support from aircraft arrival through to patient handover.
Supporting Aeromedical Providers
We understand the time-sensitive and complex nature of aeromedical transfers. Our experienced Non-Emergency Patient Transport team works closely with flight nurses, doctors, retrieval coordinators, hospitals, airport teams, and other stakeholders to help make the ground transfer process simple and seamless.
Our services can include:
- Ground ambulance transfers between airport and hospital
- Hospital to airport transfers for outbound retrievals
- Tarmac access and kerbside pick-ups, subject to operational requirements and approvals
- Support for international aeromedical retrieval and repatriation organisations
- Out-of-hours transfers and long-range regional transport
- Return transport for flight nurses, doctors, and medical escort crews to the airport or accommodation following patient handover
- Fast and direct booking via email, phone, or online enquiry
From the moment the aircraft lands, our team can support ground coordination, patient loading, transport, communication with the receiving facility, and discharge of the patient into hospital care.
Experienced Clinical Support
Our dedicated Non-Emergency Patient Transport Ambulance Officers hold a Certificate IV in Health Care (Ambulance), with AHPRA-registered paramedics and registered nurses available for higher-acuity cases.
St John Ambulance SA also holds a Schedule 4 medication licence, enabling appropriately qualified crews to administer essential medications en-route when clinically required.
On the road, our crews are supported 24/7 by our Operations Management Team, ensuring clear coordination from booking through to patient handover.
Modern Fleet and Equipment
Our modern Mercedes Sprinter ambulance fleet is designed to support safe, comfortable, and reliable patient transport.
Vehicles are equipped with Oxygen & Suction.
- Stryker PowerPro Electric Stretchers
- Continuous 12-lead cardiac monitoring
- GPS Vehicle Tracking
This allows our on-road crews and coordination teams to remain connected throughout the transfer and to operational requirements as they arise.
Booking Information Requirements
To assist with timely coordination and ensure the ground transfer is planned appropriately, we may request the following information at the time of booking:
- Tail number of the aircraft
- Expected aircraft arrival date and time
- Patient clinical information, including discharge paperwork and any relevant clinical documents
- Confirmation of whether the patient is a pre-planned direct-to-ward transfer or will be transferred via the Emergency Department
- Confirmation of whether a clinical escort team will accompany the patient during the ground transfer
Providing this information early helps our team coordinate with aeromedical crews, clinical escort teams, airport stakeholders, receiving hospitals, and internal operations teams to support a smooth transfer from aircraft arrival through to patient handover.
