Volunteering at St John Ambulance SA
St John Ambulance SA offers a range of volunteering opportunitiesĀ to suit your interests and availability. From first aid at events and our Youth Development program, to Community Care, the Historical Society and the St John Band, there really is something to suit everyone at St John.
We offer initial and ongoing training and skill development through all of our volunteer programs, so all you need is yourself and a willingness to embody the St John values.
Event Health Services
Provide first aid and medical services at events; we will provide you with ongoing training and development, uniform and equipment to fulfil your role. All we ask is commitment to annual reaccreditation of your clinical and operational skills, a fitness assessment and a minimum of 60 event hours per year.
Youth Development Program
Young people aged between 11 and 17 years can gain experience providing first aid at events under the supervision of trained adult members. Our Youth Development program also teaches skills beyond first aid: members can earn SACE points, badges and rewards, form friendships and learn skills for life.
Community Care Program
Engage with older and socially isolated members of the community in meaningful activities, adding a sense of purpose to someoneās life. We match you with a client based on shared interests and goals, and you will contribute to enriching their life with your skills, experience and compassion.
Historical Society
If you have an interest in history and St John Ambulance in South Australia and beyond, why not join our active group of volunteers of the Historical Society, who work to preserve the history and heritage of St John in SA and showcase it at the St John Museum.
Volunteers of all ages can spend half days in the museum with fellow volunteers and act as guides in the museum, or be involved in research, cataloguing items and entering data in the museum-oriented software program.
St John Band
If you are musically inclined, the St John band offers tuition in a variety of brass instruments, as well as useful first aid skills. There are opportunities to perform throughout the year and showcase your talents.
Non-Operational Positions
If first aid is not for you, but you would still like to support our frontline Event Health Services crews, you can take on a non-operational volunteer role and assist with vital tasks like communications, logistics, event rostering, admin or restocking of first aid supplies.
