All participants attending a St John First Aid course are required to adhere to our Covid-19 preventative measures which include:

  • PPE masks worn by all students at all times (unless medical exemptions are in place)
  • Adhere to the instructions communicated by our trainers to promote social distancing

The Provide First Aid on SJx half-day course provides the comprehensive full 1-day ‘Provide First Aid’ course content, but in a blended format. Delivered in 4.75 hours, this course is well suited to those who are time-limited.

Provide First Aid covers a comprehensive range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to casualties. This course is suitable for both people in the workplace and for members of the public.

Offered in a blended format, participants are required to complete compulsory online pre-learning and assessment, followed by a 4.75-hour in-person practical session with assessment.

Pre-learning + online class

Maximise your productivity and get qualified without even leaving the comfort of your home or office with this 100% online course. 

The Provide First Aid 100% Online course covers the same comprehensive range of topics as the traditional flagship course to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty. It covers the most common first aid injuries and illnesses. However, unlike the traditional course, participants of the virtual course can learn all of this without having to leave their home or workplace.

Note: Participants are required to complete online pre-learning and assessment, and you will need a second person available during your practical assessments to enable you to demonstrate providing first aid to another person.

The St John Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course gives you the skills to perform CPR on a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. You will require the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, to describe alternative methods for delivering rescue breaths and how to manage a victim of drowning.

Mental Health First Aid

The 2-day Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health issue or crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals

Mental Health First Aid

The two-day Older Persons Mental Health First Aid course is designed for any interested adult, particularly those who work with, live with, or care for older people (aged 65+ years), including families and carers. Participants will learn how to support a person aged 65+ who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. The course curriculum is based on Mental Health Guidelines and is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

Mental Health First Aid

The two-day Youth Mental Health First Aid course is designed to equip adults who teach, care for, and support young people (aged 12-18 years old) with the confidence and skills to recognise and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or crisis. The course curriculum is based on Mental Health Guidelines and is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

MHFA Terms & Conditions

The Caring for Kids course is non-accredited, and is delivered in a relaxed environment with no assessments and plenty of hands-on practice for relevant first aid techniques. The topics covered in this course include managing unconsciousness, choking, bleeding, burns, respiratory distress and anaphylaxis, with time set aside to cover the topics participants choose as well. It is ideal for new parents, guardians and/or carers of young children, including baby sitters and grandparents.

Mental Health First Aid

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Refresher Course is designed to give participants who have previously completed a 12-hour MHFA course an opportunity to refresh the skills and knowledge required of a Mental Health First Aider. Participants must hold a Standard Mental Health First Aid certification and have achieved this within 3 years of the refresher training date.

Combined Asthma & Anaphylaxis provides the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond quickly in an anaphylaxis or asthma emergency, as well as looking at how to use asthma and anaphylaxis action plans, how to effectively use medications for these conditions and how to conduct an anaphylaxis/asthma risk assessment for the workplace/education setting. It is suitable for anyone who may have the responsibility of managing the first aid of an individual with anaphylaxis or asthma, and may meet requirements specified in Education and Care organisational policy.

Do you work with heavy machinery or in a high-risk work environment? A higher first aid qualification may be required to ensure your staff and employees are protected against potential dangers.
This course equips students for emergencies in a high-risk work environment and provides the skills necessary to be responsible for a first aid room.

The St John Advanced Resuscitation course is designed for experienced first aiders who use specific equipment and often work in higher risk environments. This course develops advanced skills for providing life support and focuses on the use of oxygen delivery systems and in-depth knowledge and skill in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
This course also covers the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Participants are required to undertake or present evidence for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid prior to commencing HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy.

This 3-day remote area first aid course is specifically designed to meet the first aid needs of bushwalkers, wilderness guides, and people who work or live in remote locations.
The course covers everything from comprehensive first aid treatments to aeromedical evacuation, long-term care, self-care, and contingency planning. This course is focused on the safety of the first aider and extended care of an ill or injured casualty where help is likely to be delayed or inaccessible.

This course is specifically designed to meet the needs of people working in the childcare and early childhood learning industry. It is tailored towards anyone working with children.
It covers child-specific first aid in high-risk conditions such as anaphylaxis and asthma, and common injuries and resuscitation.
The Australian Children’s Education & Care Authority has endorsed this course as meeting their requirements for anaphylaxis, asthma, and first aid training.

Participants are required to undertake an online e-learning module prior to attending the face to face workshops for practice and assessment.

This course provides participants with the skills to manage common first aid situations that can arise in an electrical services industry environment, including rescue from low voltage panels. It is suitable for people employed as electricians and others employed in the electrical services industry.
