St John Ambulance will launch its inaugural St John Drive-a-thon on Wednesday 16 October, a nine-week lap of Australia to raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
During the course of this one-of-a-kind journey, St John will aim to train 5,000 Australians in CPR, while also delivering life saving AEDs to regional communities throughout the country, building community resilience through skills and life saving equipment in more than 30 locations.
The starting point for the Drive-a-thon journey will be Darwin in the Northern Territory, and it will then head west towards Broome before moving south to Perth. The vehicles will then move east through South Australia and Victoria, before heading south to Tasmania and then back north through New South Wales and on to Queensland. Finally, they will head south again through the Northern Territory before finishing in Adelaide.
The Drive-a-thon kick-off date of Wednesday 16 October 2024 coincides with Restart a Heart Day - a global initiative of the European Resuscitation Council, co-ordinated in Australia and New Zealand by the Council of Ambulance Authorities to also raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and AEDs.
